Oliver and Gostelow team up to enter the Westend Producer's Search for a Twitter Composer: Blog 102

So here is my second blog in one day!

Yesterday was a good day. I went to our gala performance of Mullered by Clifford Oliver for the British Transport Police annual awards in Camden. It was a lovely event and we were really thrilled by the response of officers and commissioners. As I said in the Q and A the BTP are fantastic in putting their money where their mouth is in commissioning Arc over the past four years on a regular basis to develop and tour our last three plays about young people's experience of gangs and violence. We look forward to working with them on this and new initiatives going forward.

Clifford Oliver
Yesterday was a bit of a left field day too, but just as exciting for everyone at Arc. Phil and Olly have been busily working on ideas for a new musical Brides for some months now, since their foray into musical collaboration on last year's panto Cinderella for the Broadway Theatre. They have found a real creative energy in their work together, with Phil bringing his classical musical training, passion for musical theatre and flair for composition and Olly his natural musicianship, talent and gift for lyric writing. Its a marriage made in heaven!

So Phil saw that Westendproducer had set up a competition to find a Twitter Composer and this seemed to present the perfect opportunity for Olly and he to get their musical even further along the line. Arc was happy to support Olly's time in doing this with Phil and we see it as a huge artistic development opportunity for both of them and for Arc too.

Phil Gostelow
I think both Phil and Olly (known as Oliver and Gostelow - well it had to be didn't it!) were astonished at how quickly they created these songs. Indeed the opening song was only made a week ago! You won't believe it when you hear it. Not only did
the composition happen in a short time but Phil also organised for his talented musical theatre students from CPA to record the songs thanks to great support from Colin Putz, the College Principal. So on Tuesday  they worked flat out with a very talented cast
of 25 students to record the two songs from the
Oliver and Gostelow musical in development - Brides.

They are now uploaded on the Westendproducer website http://www.westendproducer.co.uk/ reading for voting to start.I am still attempting to upload them directly on here from youtube but having a few tech issues which I hope to sort out today.

The competition closes on May 5th and voting will be for just a week from May 6th  so do have a listen and please share as much as you can so that the boys get as many votes as possible to take them through to the next round! Have a listen to their submissions from Brides and Tread Gently at

Everyone at Arc is right behind them - and wish them every ounce of luck! We will keep you in the loop!

Have a tuneful day!
